Norveç’ten ‘Kıyamet Ambarı’ Projesi

Olası bir küresel afet anında, bitki türlerini yok olmaktan kurtarmak ve yeniden ekimini sağlamak amacıyla kurulan Svalbard Küresel Tohum Deposu, giderek daha fazla dikkat çekiyor.

2008 yılında Norveç’in Longyearbyen şehrinde açılan “Küresel Tohum Deposu” dünyanın en büyük tohum ambarı. Yeryüzündeki bütün bitki tohumlarını bünyesinde bulunduran ve Küresel Ürün Çeşitliliği Örgütü (GDTC) ile Norveç hükümetinin desteğiyle gerçekleştirilen projede tohumlar nükleer patlamalara dahi dayanıklı depolarda saklanıyor. ‘Kıyamet Ambarı’ olarak da bilinen ve yaklaşık 9 milyon dolara mal olan projeye dünyanın dört bir yanındaki zengin iş insanları tarafından mali destek sağlandığı söyleniyor. Norveç’in bu projede diğer destekçileri ise ABD, İngiltere, Almanya, İsviçre ve Kanada. Her yıl devlet fonlarından yaklaşık 150 bin dolar mali destek aktaran bu ülkeler, “Küresel Tohum Deposu”nun varlığını sürdürmesini istiyor.

Norveç’in kuzeyindeki Spitsbergen adasında bulunan bir dağın 130 metre derinliklerine inşa edilen depoda 4 milyona yakın tohum korunuyor. Eksi 18 dereceye kadar sabitlenen sıcaklık ayarı, bilim insanlarına göre bu tohumların varlıklarını sürdürülebilmeleri için en uygun ortamı sağlıyor.

2008 yılında faaliyete geçse de, aslında 1983’ten beri hazırlıkları süren Küresel Tohum Deposu, tüm dünyayı ilgilendiren ve biraz da gelecekle ilgili endişelendiren bir konuyla ilgili olmasından ötürü bazı komplo teorilerini de beraberinde getiriyor elbette. 

ABD’li gazeteci F. William Engdahl, bu deponun “dünyayı ekonomik ve genetik olarak ele geçirme planları”nın bir parçası olduğuna iddia ederken, kimi komplo teorisyenleri Rockefeller Fonu’nun tohum deposunun önemli destekçilerinden biri olmasına dikkat çekiyor. Her ne amaçla olursa olsun dünyadaki tüm tohum kaynağının olası felaketlere karşı korunması önemli bir adım. Kafalardaki asıl soru ise, ‘kıyamet’ senaryosu gerçek olduğunda bu tohumlardan herkes faydalanabilecek mi?
