1972 yılında, İsveç’in başkenti Stockholm kentinde ilk kez toplanan Birleşmiş Milletler Çevre Konferansı’nda alınan kararla 5 Haziran, dünya çevre günü olarak kabul edildi. O günden bu yana dünyanın gündeminde iklim krizi, gıda atıkları, sürdürülebilirlik, hava kirliliği, fosil ve çöp atıklar gibi çevre sorunları her geçen gün daha fazla konuşuluyor, sürdürülebilir bir dünya için sorumluluklarımız var, çünkü sadece tek bir dünyaya sahibiz!

Sürdürülebilir Üretim ve Tüketim Derneği’nden Dünya Çevre Günü Çağrısı

İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesi Öğretim Üyesi ve Sürdürülebilir Üretim ve Tüketim Derneği (SÜT-D) Başkanı Prof. Dr. Filiz Karaosmanoğlu, bu yıl dünya çevre gününün çok daha önem teşkil ettiğini vurgulayarak sürdürülebilirlik, biyoçeşitlilik, iklim ve kirlilik acil durumları için doğayla barışık yaşamaya çağrı yaptı.

Dünyayı korumak için hepimize düşen görev ve sorumluluklar olduğuna dikkat çeken Karaosmanoğlu, bu yıl 5 Haziran Dünya Çevre Günü temasının geçmişten bugüne atıfla “Sadece Tek Bir Dünya Var” olarak belirlendiğini ve bu mesajın, gezegenimizi yenileme ve koruma için küresel ortaklaşa eylem çağrısı ile güçlendirildiğini söylüyor.

Prof. Karaosmanoğlu, “Çünkü tek bir Dünya var. Dünyamızı birlikte koruyabiliriz. Unutmayalım, evrende milyarlarca galaksi var, galaksimizde milyarlarca gezegen var. Ama sadece bir dünya var. Şubat 2021’de açıklanan “Doğayla Barışmak: İklim, Biyoçeşitlilik ve Kirlilik Gibi Acil Durumlarıyla Mücadele için Bilimsel Plan” adlı UNEP Raporu‘nda da yer aldığı gibi bizlere üç acil başlıkta yapmamız gerekenleri bildirdi. 9 Kasım 2021 tarihli UNEP İklim Durumu: İklim Eylem Notu’nda da insanlık için kırmızı kod tanımı ile iklim acil durumu sunuluyor. Yok sayamayacağımız, endişe kelimesinin yetersiz olduğu, korkmak gereken bir durumdayız. Geleceğimizi güvence altına almak, yeni salgınları önlemek için iklim değişikliği, biyoçeşitlilik kaybı ve kirlilik sorunlarımız için siyasi, ekonomik ve teknik çözümler bulmalı, daha sürdürülebilir üretim ve tüketim yaparak doğa ile barışmalı, “Sadece Tek Bir Dünya” var diyerek günlük ve endüstriyel yaşamı sürdürülebilir kılmalıyız vurgusunu yaptı.

Global Compact Türkiye iklim krizi ile mücadele için çağrısını yineliyor. Küresel ısınmanın etkilerinin önüne geçmek için 2050 yılına kadar net sıfıra ulaşılması gerekirken yayımlanan son bilimsel iklim raporlarına göre 2025 yılına kadar zirveye ulaşması beklenen karbon salımlarının hızlıca düşürülmesi gerekiyor. Plastik kirliliğinden emisyonların azaltılmasına kadar Türkiye’de hayata geçirdiği çeşitli programlarla şirketlere rehberlik eden Global Compact Türkiye, sürdürülebilir bir gelecek için harekete geçme çağrısında bulunuyor.

Bunun başarılmasında ise şüphesiz iş dünyası çözümün kilit aktörü” derken Global Compact Türkiye Çevre Çalışma Grubu Eş Başkanı Servet Yıldırım ise “Gelecek hepimizin ama dünyamız tek. Bu nedenle sürdürülebilir bir gelecek için fazla geç kalmadan, hep birlikte harekete geçmemiz gerekiyor” diyerek Dünya Çevre Günü’nün önemini vurguluyor.
