Uluslararası perakende şirketi Metro, okyanuslara ulaşan plastik atığın önüne geçme amacıyla Plastik Bank ile uzun dönemli bir iş birliğine imza attı. Metro’nun küresel olarak başlattığı “Plastik Hareketi” kapsamında bir yıl içinde 1.000 tonun üzerinde plastik atığa denk gelen 65 milyonu aşkın plastik şişenin okyanuslara ulaşmadan önce toplanması hedefleniyor.


Uluslararası perakende şirketi Metro, 2013 yılından bu yana dünya çapında kıyı bölgelerine odaklanarak geri dönüşüm ekosistemleri oluşturulmasına odaklanan sosyal girişim Plastic Bank ile uluslararası ve uzun dönemli bir iş birliği başlattı. İlk yılında öncelikli olarak 1.000 tonun üzerinde plastik atığa denk gelen 65 milyonu aşkın plastik şişenin okyanuslara ulaşmadan önce toplanmasının hedeflendiği Metro Plastik Hareketi, Türkiye’nin de içinde yer aldığı 24 ülkede Metro müşterilerini, tedarikçilerini ve Plastic Bank’ı bir araya getiriyor.

Metro Türkiye’nin de dâhil olduğu küresel plastik hareketi kapsamında dünya çapında daha sürdürülebilir ambalajlar sahip ürünlere odaklanılacak. Bu ambalaj türleri arasında yeniden tasarlandıktan sonra daha az saf plastik malzeme gerektiren, geri dönüştürülmüş malzeme içeren, kompost haline getirilebilir malzeme veya renk değişikliği nedeniyle geri dönüşümü çok daha kolay olan ambalajlar yer alacak. Ambalajlar üzerinde sağlanacak ek bilgiler müşterilerin bilinçli ve sürdürülebilir satın alma kararları vermesine olanak sağlarken, geri dönüşüm konusundaki farkındalıklarını da artıracak. Bu sayede, satın alınan her bir kampanya ürünü ile Metro müşterileri ve katılım gösteren tedarikçiler, sosyal girişim Plastic Bank’ı da desteklemiş olacak.

Metro Türkiye CEO’su Sinem Türüng, konuyla ilgili şunları söyledi: “Sürdürülebilirlik, gelecek nesillere daha yaşanabilir bir dünya bırakmak için bu ekosistemin bir parçası olarak tüm şirketler için önemli bir konu. Metro Türkiye olarak biz, sürdürülebilirliği bir iş yapış biçimi olarak ele alıyor ve 30 yılı aşkın süredir sürdürülebilir çözümler üreterek çalışıyoruz. Bu kapsamda çalışmalarımızı sadece kendi operasyonlarımızda hayata geçirmekle kalmıyor; sürdürülebilirliği müşterilerimizi, tedarikçilerimizi ve çalışanlarımızı da süreçlere dâhil ettiğimiz bütünsel bir yaklaşım olarak ele alıyoruz. Bu nedenle ülkemizde yaklaşık yüzde 90’ınına ulaştığımız otel ve restoran sektöründeki müşterimizi de ticari faaliyetlerini sürdürülebilir bir şekilde yürütmeleri için destekliyoruz. Metro Plastik Hareketi ile de sürdürülebilirlik çalışmalarımıza bir yenisini daha ekleyerek hazırladığımız kampanyamıza tedarikçilerimizi de dahil ettik. Metro markalı belirli ürünlerimize ek olarak tedarikçilerimiz de kendi markalarıyla hazırladığımız kampanyaya aktif katılım sağladılar. Plastic Bank Kurucusu ve CEO’su David Katz ise açıklamasında, “Metro ve iş ortaklarıyla yaptığımız iş birliği, dünyadaki plastik atıkların okyanuslara ulaşmasının önlenmesine yardımcı oluyor. Bu hareketle birlikte markalar, tedarikçiler ve tüketiciler plastik ayak izlerini ölçebilecek ve buna göre hareket edebilecek. Bu sayede gezegenimiz için gerçek ve kalıcı bir değişim sağlamak üzere şeffaflık ve hesap verebilirlik artmış olacak.” dedi.

Metro Türkiye plastik atıklara karşı uzun yıllardır güçlü bir strateji izliyor

Metro Türkiye, 30 yılı aşkın süredir faaliyetlerini sürdürülebilirliği tüm işlerinin merkezine yerleştirerek doğaya saygılı bir şekilde yürütmeye devam ediyor. Çevresel etkisi yüksek olan plastik ambalajların azaltılması çalışması kapsamında 2019 yılından bu yana yaklaşık 25 ton plastik azaltımı sağlayan şirket, tek kullanımlık plastik ürünlere alternatif olarak geri dönüştürülebilir, bioçözünür, kompostlanır veya tekrar kullanılabilir doğaya dost ürün çeşitliliğini de artırıyor. Son olarak Ekim ayında “Şimdi Sıra Sizde” sloganı ile yayınladığı plastik kataloğunda ise, müşterileri için işletmelerinde de plastik atığını azaltma dönüşümünü başlatabilecekleri ürünlere yer veriyor. Metro Türkiye’nin kendi markalı ürünlerinin yanı sıra harekete katılan diğer markaların çevre dostu ürünlerinin de bulunduğu katalogda %100 geri dönüşüme uygun ambalajların kullanıldığı gıdadan, %90’ın üzerinde geri dönüştürülebilir ambalajların kullanıldığı kişisel bakım ve ev temizliğine kadar birçok ürün bulunuyor.
